When FTTP is connected – what do I actually get?

Two boxes are installed as part of your Fibre To The Premises (FTTP) Service.

The Premises Connection Device (PCD) or “NBN Utility Box” is installed on the side of your house where the current Telstra copper comes in.

The Network Termination Device (NTD) or “NBN Connection Box” is installed inside your house, and is connected to your router. Your ISP can supply a router if you do not have a suitable one. The NTD allows for FOUR separate internet accounts and TWO separate simple voice services/accounts. The ADSL service you currenty have only allows for one internet service on the phone line. A FTTN service would only offer one service as well.

In other words, running a business from home, you could have your business internet account on one port on the NTD at 100/40 (with business SLA, etc.) and your personal internet account (perhaps with a completely different ISP) on another port on the NTD with a speed of 50/20. You could have your business number on one phone service, and your home number on the other.

Or, your 20’ish son or daughter who is financially independent could have their own internet account and connection, and you could have yours.

All will be completely independent and unaffected by one another.

Speed Tiers available through NBN:

Tier 1 – 12/1: 12 Mbps download, 1 Mbps upload *
Tier 2 – 25/5: 25 Mbps download, 5 Mbps upload
Tier 3 – 50/20: 50 Mbps download, 20 Mbps upload
Tier 4 – 100/40: 100 Mbps download, 40 Mbps upload

*(In 2015 the US FCC redefined ‘broadband’ as 25Mbps down and 3 Mbps up. 12/1 does NOT meet this minimum criteria)

The NTD supplied is more than capable of running four (4) x tier 1-4 services simultaneously.

Should you require a battery backup for your phone service, you need to advise NBN of this beforehand.

We want your news!

You have been the greatest asset to the project by far.

The information you have provided, no matter how insignificant, has been invaluable and appreciated. Simply by talking to each other, workers undertaking NBN tasks on street, or any other information from your ISP is very helpful.

Please continue to email nbn@gleneaglesestate.net with any information, so we can pass this throughout the community.
