Update:May 2015 Gleneagles Estate NBN Committee

Whilst the goal of the project has always been a Fibre To the Premises/Home (FTTP/H) option for Gleneagles Estate residents, the scope has expanded to lobby for a planned and structured design given the mix of FTTP and VDSL2 technologies that could be utilised.  This would include appropriate backhaul/bandwidth for the Estate to cater for such technologies; a design which would cater for both these technologies prior to being deployed, resulting in a more efficient rollout in terms of time, cost and resources required.

With the publication of the NBN Technology Choice Policy in March 2015, we would leverage off the work of the project to provide the best cost-efficient outcome for all stakeholders.

We have continued to remain focused on ensuring Gleneagles Estate is not ‘forgotten’ in the NBN rollout planned for Kambah, particularly in light of the coverage offered by the IINET/TransACT VDSL2 network to all areas of Kambah, except Gleneagles Estate.

The committee approached the three major Retail Service Providers (RSP’s) in the private sector with a business case to co-fund a FTTP/H rollout to the Estate.  Discussions with the RSP’s indicated that the wholesaling requirements of any network would prevent their engagement at this time.

In addition, we have had meetings with both Gai Brodtmann’s and Zed Seslja’s respective offices to progress responses to a number of questions we have put to NBNCo.  This includes clarification of the ‘community based co-funding’ approach that was stated in NBNCo’s press release of 1 December 2014, and Minister Turnbull’s response to our letter of April 2014.

The NBN is a long term program of work, and still is going through a period of significant change and restructuring.  The project is very much at the early stages of what is being proposed.  We are well positioned to be a pilot program for such a build, provided we continue to have support from the community.

Please continue to encourage your neighbours to support the project.

Thank you

Gleneagles Estate NBN Committee
