Updated information – current pricing averages and Area Switch

As reported on itnews.com.au NBN released its financial results for the second half of 2015:

NBN’s cost per premises during the half stood at $4419 on its brownfield FTTP network, $2770 on greenfield FTTP, $2300 on FTTN and $3516 on fixed wireless.

(FYI – Brownfield: Established residential areas; Greenfield: Residential areas under construction)

The committee has been exploring all avenues to ensure the best price is offered for the community.  We will continue to endeavour to work with NBN when the time comes for individual premises applications to be submitted.

It is clear there is a slow uptake of the ‘Area Switch’ option through the Technology Upgrade Program.

There are six Area Switch Applications that have been received by NBN:

  • Goulburn Mulwaree Council, NSW
  • Greater Shepparton City Council, VIC
  • Meander Valley Council, TAS (applied for two different areas)
  • Rockhampton Regional Council, QLD
  • Burnie City Council, TAS
  • Flinders Council, SA

No Council has yet proceeded to build quote stage for Area Switch. The Councils have been provided a cost estimation range to design and build the infrastructure required for the Area Switch:

  • Meander Valley Council (provided for two different areas)
  • Rockhampton Regional Council
  • Burnie City Council

No quotes have been provided to Councils. The above councils have been provided with cost estimate ranges that are developed through a desktop analysis so that the Councils can decide whether they want a formal quote, as per the application process.
